In Italy 1973, John Paul Getty III was kidnapped by the Calabrian mafia and held captive for 5 months. International media had a feeding frenzy when Paul’s captors cut off his ear and mailed it to his mother while his grandfather barricaded himself in his English castle, refusing to pay the ransom. When Paul was finally released, he refused to tell the details of his story. International media has been obsessed with this bizarre story, but with few facts and numerous contradictory accounts, the true story has remained untold. Now, for the first time, with unprecedented access, the story is told from a perspective never before revealed: from the kidnappers themselves. This powerful true story never told of two generations of families fighting for their survival and the unlikely fiery relationship between the kidnapper and a mother fighting to save her son’s life.
